How I Read More as a Busy Mom (Without Ever Picking Up a Book)

If you’re a mom, you already know — finding time for yourself can feel impossible. With three kids, including a toddler who just turned one, I’m constantly on the move. Between working, grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning, doing endless loads of laundry, and keeping up with the kids’ activities, the idea of curling up with a book sounds like a dream — one that rarely comes true.

But here’s the thing: I love to read. Books have always been my way to learn, escape, and recharge. For a while, I felt sad that I couldn’t fit reading into my life anymore. Every time I tried, I’d either get interrupted or fall asleep two pages in. I knew I had to find a new way to enjoy books — one that fit into my life, with all its beautiful chaos.

That’s when I discovered the magic of Audible. It’s completely changed how I consume books—and honestly, how I take care of myself.

🎧 What Is Audible?

Audible is Amazon’s audiobook service, offering thousands of books—from bestsellers to parenting guides to juicy fiction. You can listen on your phone, tablet, or Alexa device while doing literally anything else.

With Audible, I’ve “read” books:

  • During 3AM nursing sessions
  • On school pickup drives
  • While folding the never-ending pile of laundry
  • Even in the shower (yes, it’s waterproof-headphone-level obsession 😅)

💬 Why Moms Love It:

  • ✅ Multitask while listening
  • ✅ Stay mentally stimulated (especially when stuck in the house)
  • ✅ Reclaim a little “me time” without needing extra hours in the day

✅ Great for kids too (Audible has a Kids+ section!)

📚 My Favorite Audiobooks for Moms:

1. The Ultimate Brian Tracy Library

I’ve been reading Brian Tracy’s books for many years, and he’s always on my Audible list.

2. A New Earth-Awakening Your Life’s Purpose

It touches every aspect of the social and individual councious and unconscious life..

3. Atomic Habits by James Clear

Tiny changes, big improvements—especially helpful in the chaos of mom life.

4. The 5AM Club-Own Your Morning. Elevate Your Life.

The whole book is based off of waking up at 5am but has a ton of great quotes and life lessons from many infamous people.

5. How to Love Yourself

Here Louise Hay goes through 10 simple steps to help you and those around you. I found them helpful because I’ve needed to figure out how to love me when I’m in a VERY bad mood. Here is where you can learn how to do this as well.

The Unexpected Gifts of Audiobooks

Audiobooks didn’t just bring reading back into my life — they gave me so much more.

💛 They make me feel like myself again. It’s easy to lose your identity in the blur of motherhood. Listening to books reminds me of my passions, my curiosity, my dreams.

💛 They turn chores into “me time.” Now, scrubbing dishes or folding clothes doesn’t feel like a drag — it feels like a chance to connect with ideas that light me up.

💛 They model learning for my kids. My older kids see me listening and ask what I’m learning about. We talk about it, and I love that they see learning as something fun and lifelong.

Tips for Getting Started

If you’re new to audiobooks, here’s my advice:

Start with a free trial.

Try different narrators. The right voice makes all the difference.

Pick something that excites you. Don’t force yourself to listen to what you think you should read. Go for what feels good.

Give yourself grace. You might get interrupted. You might zone out and have to rewind. That’s okay!

💕 Pro Tip for Tired Moms:

You don’t have to finish a book in one sitting. I often listen in 10–15 minute chunks. It still counts, and it feels amazing to be learning, laughing, or just escaping for a bit each day.
